Xylimelts

Xylimelts are for symptom relief of dry mouth, especially at night when you produce the least saliva.  They are designed so as to provide the benefits of a biotene lozenge, but adhere to your cheek so that they are not a choking hazard while you sleep.  They also contain xylitol which targets and destroys the bacteria that cause tooth decay.  Dry mouth can be caused by aging, changes in medication (dry mouth is one of the MOST common side effects of medication), marijuana use, history of head and neck radiation, chronic stress, and even genetic variation.  It is important to manage dry mouth symptoms properly – either through a rinse such as biotene, xylitol gum, xylitol mints, biotene lozenges, xylimelts, or even frequent sips of tap water.  DO NOT manage your dry mouth with hard candies, regular lozenges or cough drops, sweet drinks, sports drinks, etc.  Poorly managed dry mouth symptoms is one of the fastest ways to get tooth decay on multiple teeth – sometimes on every single tooth in the mouth – in a very short amount of time.  If you find yourself experiencing dry mouth symptoms, call the office and Dr. Wenzel will be happy to assess your risk and come up with a personalized prevention plan for you.
